Johny Hendricks No Country For Old Men

November 30th, 2009
Rhett Butler, UFC - Johny Hendricks likes the serenity of the Oklahoma countryside. The stillness of the country, which can frighten the hardcore city slicker, always soothed Hendricks when he grew up in Ada and Jones, Oklahoma. However, Hendricks also had to grow up fast amid the lush settings to manage his realities: of war, wrestling and determination led by a vision for a career in the fight business.

Hey, don’t forget Junie Browning is crazy too

November 30th, 2009

juniebrowningtriangle Hey, dont forget Junie Browning is crazy tooBy jove, today has been a day of complete MMA retardation here at Fightlinker. And to add to that, here’s the latest fun involving Junie Browning. He returned to competition in Kentucky over the weekend with a 1st round triangle submission against a green as baby shit fighter named Scott Cornwell (now 1-1). But as usual with Junie, the big story isn’t what he did in the cage but what he did outside it:

Browning controlled the entire 3:13 fight and was never in any danger. Following the bout, the microphone was handed to Cornwell who was apologetic and genuinely displeased with his performance. The crowd applauded Cornwell’s effort, in what was only his second professional bout.

Then the microphone was handed to Junie and the arena filled with boos. Junie said, “I try to come out here and put on a show. If you don’t like it, then fuck ya’ll!” This actually brought out a few cheers. Then Junie had a special message for the ladies. He said, “LADIES, AFTER THIS I WANT TWO LINES, ONE FOR SUCKING, AND ONE FOR FUCKING.” He dropped the mic to the ground and walked out of the cage. The boos were deafening.

There’s nothing that wins over a crowd like the declaration that you want all the bitches there to form a suck n fuck conga line. You’d think Junie would have learned this by now … his similar fornication-themed discussion with hospital staff this fall went over about as well.

It’s a Thin Line Between Fun and Assault at Porn Star Parties

November 30th, 2009

(War Machine's struggle to learn appropriate ways of showing affection continues. Courtesy of EMMReport.com)

When it comes to choking people, there's 'fun choking' and then there's 'charges pending choking.'  The trouble, at least for some people, is that they have a hard time differentiating between them until it's too late.  Watch Kalib Run got ahold of some pre-brawl pictures of War Machine joking around with his porn star buddies at Brooke Haven's birthday party, and while he does not seem to be on the verge of punching anyone in the face just yet, he also doesn't come off as the kind of guy you'd want to invite to your sister's graduation party.  But you knew that already, didn't you?

On a related note, the birthday girl at the disastrous aforementioned party offered a public apology via Twitter to the people injured by Mr. Machine's outburst at her celebration, and said she was "ready to testify if this goes to court."  So yeah, this ain't going away.  Our only hope is that War Machine's trial, complete with a litany of porn starts testifying for the prosecution, will turn out to be the unintentionally hilarious circus that we truly believe it can be.

Mixed martial arts regulation is finally coming to Massachusetts.

Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick today signed into law a bill, versions of which were previously approved by the House and Senate, that calls for the Massachusetts State Boxing Commission to become the Massachusetts State Athletic Commission and oversee MMA events.

The move opens the door for the UFC to host a long-anticipated event in Boston.

“what am I supposed to do? Wait and let someone crack me first?”

November 30th, 2009

machinewreckage what am I supposed to do? Wait and let someone crack me first?
(the scene of destruction - porn stars and agents laid out everywhere)

More details on War Machine’s flip-out at a porno industry party:

According to Adult FYI, the incidents occurred at a party thrown for Brooke Haven at the Ultimate Porn Studios. War Machine began haranguing his agent and then allegedly slapped his girlfriend when she intervened (this has since been denied by the girl in question), according to one attendee.

“Apparently War Machine wasn’t too happy, claiming that Derek Hay wasn’t getting him enough work as far as he was concerned. What happened next was speculative. Either War Machine socked a girl or was accused of doing it. Either way he snapped and began doing an Octagon dance and waving his fists. One guy was clocked and had three teeth knocked out. Another guy-  an Asian - had his nose broken,” the source recounted.

“Then War Machine came after Derek and knocked him down. Alec Knight was also hit and went down, his head striking the pavement. It seemed that every time someone tried to advise War Machine to mellow out or tried to talk sense to him, they got hit for their efforts. Maybe six guys in all got punched. War Machine was relentless as the crowd kept a distance.”

“The incident wound up with War Machine and Derek playing hide and seek with one another around a dumpster, then at some point, both War Machine and Derek took off when someone threatened to call the cops.”

In his defense, War Machine has tweeted:

“Ya’ll can say what you want but when you got 5 guys drunk and in your face pissed about some BS that ain’t even true what am I supposed to do? Wait and let someone crack me first? lol..I think not. Fuck all you fucks,”

Well, considering he’s a professional fighter, that would probably only be fair. It would also change the situation from “Douchebag freaks out and mauls porn people” to “Man defends himself from attack”, two very different things in the eyes of the law. Speaking of the law, despite another tweet implying the police would have to chase him down, War Machine has turned himself in and is already out on bail. Anyone wanna guess if this gets crazier or if that was the peak?

UFC cuts middleweight Jake Rosholt

November 30th, 2009
Jake Rosholt will have to fight his way back to the UFC.

The middleweight fighter today confirmed the Ultimate Fighting Championship has dropped him from its roster of middleweight competitors.

The termination comes a week after Rosholt (6-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC), a three-time NCAA Division I national wrestling champion and four-time All-American, suffered a first-round submission loss to Kendall Grove at UFC 106.

Jake Rosholt Says The UFC Cut Him

November 30th, 2009

(How quickly they forget that time you totally jumped out of that pool.)

It's a real bummer of a Monday for Jake Rosholt, as the 8-2 middleweight announced on his Twitter that he's been cut from the UFC following a first-round submission loss to Kendall Grove at UFC 106.  Rosholt was terse about the whole thing, writing only: "Not a good day.  Just found out I got cut by the #UFC."

Rosholt, a Division I wrestling champ and four-time All American at Oklahoma State, was undefeated before transitioning from the WEC to the UFC earlier this year, but he's gone 1-2 since stepping in the Octagon, with his lone win coming via arm triangle chokeout against Chris Leben at UFC 102 in August.  What's got to make this a really tough pill for Rosholt to swallow is that, right up until he got caught in that triangle, he was dominating Grove.  He pushed him all over the cage, took him down with ease, and appeared to be on his way toward a quick victory.  But one little mistake cost him the fight, and as an extra little kick in the balls he now he finds himself out of a job.

Obviously some other organization can find a use for him, and it seems very likely that he'll make his way back to the UFC in the future, but for right now it has to sting knowing that he should be spending his win bonus and thinking about who's next.  Instead he's circling the MMA want ads and reusing Ziploc bags to save money.  Just goes to show how easily fortunes change in this sport.  Keep your head up, Jake.
