The drives along the scenic routes of Hawaii were often enjoyable for a young Travis Browne, mostly because it was time spent with his father.
Dad, meanwhile, was often carrying a .45-caliber handgun in his lap.
"A lot of people on the mainland think it's a paradise or something, but Hawaii was a tough place to grow up," Browne, a recent UFC signee who now runs a successful dog-training business, told MMAjunkie.com. "There were a lot of drugs and gang issues."
