Manny Pacquaio is currently in Washington meeting top politicians. I guess since he learned how to buy an election from them, he better get some other pointers on how to be corrupt as well. And you know how it is: where Manny goes, so does his 80 year old promoter Bob Arum. When the press asked Arum what he thought of the UFC selling 50,000 seats to UFC 129 in the blink of an eye, Arum scoffed (that seems like an appropriately aged word to use) and said this:
I don't want to demean UFC, because they've done a marvelous job of marketing. But it's the same audience over and over. It's white males, and they have never been able to expand their demographic. The Hispanics don't care anything for it. Most African-Americans don't watch it. Hey, this country is becoming more and more Hispanic, and it's growing African-American (in the) audience. So the future success of UFC is limited. The success of boxing is not, because boxing reaches those groups. The only demographic that boxing has lost is the white, young males, period.
Keep in mind this is a guy who once said "UFC are a bunch of skinhead white guys watching people in the ring who are also skinhead white guys. For me, and people like me, it is not something that they ever care to see. They've watched it, it's horrible, guys rolling around like homosexuals on the ground."
This type of argument from Arum has gone from an opinion to repetitive old fuddy duddy story. You know the sort - you visit your grandpa at the old folks home (okay you don't, but if you did) and he shares the same offensive thought that 'the blacks' are taking over Burger King. Every time. Jesus, grandpa.
As far as the UFC being 'limited' by it's smaller Hispanic and blacktastic demographics, I'd say it's actually the opposite. The UFC has been banging on both doors for the past few years, and these segments are only getting bigger. If you want to know who's limited, look no further than boxing which continues to lose more and more interest as it’s stars fade out and it's old ass fans keel over.

You would think that if you were awaiting trial for assaulting your ex-wife you might try your best to...I don't know...NOT GET ARRESTED FOR ASSAULT?!
It seems that Floyd Mayweather Jr. thinks that money and fame excuses him from playing by society's rules.
The Associated Press is reporting that the WBA welterweight boxing champ was allegedly involved in another incident this morning in Las Vegas in which he laid his hands, more specifically his fingers on a security guard in his gated community after the official began writing him parking tickets for a number of vehicles that were unlawfully parked on the street outside "Pretty Boy Floyd's" home.
Police say that Mayweather became enraged when the the security officer refused to tear up the tickets and began repeatedly and aggressively poking the guard in his face.

It was only a matter of time before someone published this story, right? In the wake of James Toney’s halfhearted loss to Randy Couture last weekend at UFC 118, BoxingScene.com reports that pound-for-pound boxing king Manny Pacquiao says he’d be interested in bringing his skills to the cage, too. Obviously there’s no chance this ever happens – and we assume the next few months will be full of breathless “(Insert Famous Boxer’s Name Here) Also Interested in MMA!” stories – but it is at least interesting to note that even the best pugilist on the planet is willing to give lip service to fighting in our sport.
It’s also worthwhile to follow the link just to read the few comments on Boxing Scene’s original story. We don’t want to spoil it for you, but let’s just say there is across-the-board agreement from guys with names like “Neck Snapper” that “Pac” would destroy these “UFC fags.” There also seems to be some confusion about the proper use of “there, their and they’re.” Just saying.

Bob Arum calls MMA fans skinheads, boxing vs. MMA, Manny Pacquiao

UFC President
Dana White gave an interview Monday morning in which he talked about all the usual things (promoting the soon-to-be released UFC video game and this weekend's UFC pay-per-view), but he also had an interesting exchange with radio host Dan Patrick about the world's two best boxers,
Floyd Mayweather Jr. and
Manny Pacquiao.
White said Mayweather and Pacquiao would lose if they gave mixed martial arts a try. I think he's half right.
