Silva and Machida Talk Fights with Sonnen and Rampage

July 16th, 2010

(Somehow, I don't think this is the first time Chael rocked this feathered coif.)

Anderson Silva and Lyoto Machida spoke with Sherdog.com recently about "The Spider's" upcoming UFC 117 tilt with Chael Sonnen and "The Dragon's" rumored bout with Quinton Rampage Jackson among other topics.

I don't know if it's because I'm not easily entertained or because every fighter seems to spout the same tired crap to the same tired questions, but I would be much more interested in all the pre-fight drama if they made these guys live together for their entire training camp before they fight like on "The Ultimate Fighter." That way, we could watch them squabble about real issues they have with each other like who left the toilet seat up and who drank the last of the morning urine and didn't throw out the container. You can't fake that kind of drama.

Lil’ Nog and Rampage Verbally Agree to Face Each Other in September

June 30th, 2010

(Where's your stand-up now, playboy?)

According to Antonio Rogerio "Minotoro" Nogueira's boxing coach, Luis Carlos Dórea in an interview with TATAME today, his charge will likely be back in action in September against Quinton "Rampage" Jackson.

“It’s set that he’ll be back in September, and rumors point that his opponent might be Quinton Jackson. It’d be a great fight for Rogério, he’s a former UFC champion and a victory over him will move us pretty close to the title. The UFC only has top athletes and Quinton Jackson is really dangerous. It’d be a great fight, but the UFC didn’t confirmed anything yet”, Dórea said.

Rampage vs. Rashad: By the Numbers

May 29th, 2010

(They were so much in love. VidProps: YouTube.)

With just a few hours left before they actually climb into the cage, there is not much more to say about the UFC 114 bout between Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Rashad Evans that hasn’t already been written and rewritten by MMA scribes, or said by the fighters themselves. Said, and then repeated … then repeated again while standing uncomfortably close to each other. Indeed, after wasting so much of our time with their ridiculous (and repetitive) trash talk during the past few months, these two dudes better fucking bring it tonight.

Instead of adding to the mountainous pile of  terrible clichés already being used to describe this fight – i.e. “it’s time to let their fists do the talking!” as the radio ad airing in my town declares -- as a final look at this odd coupling,  I offer just a few numbers that characterize each man’s career up to this point.

They say numbers don’t lie, after all …

Dana White Talks Rampage vs. Evans, Canada, UFC Undisputed 2010 and More

December 31st, 1969

Often times, a fighter may not be 100 percent focused in a return to competition after a layoff in pursuit of Hollywood dreams, but UFC president Dana White says Quinton "Rampage" Jackson should be an exception to the rule due to the amount of animosity he holds towards opponent Rashad Evans.

"The one saving grace for Rampage in this whole thing is how much he hates Rashad Evans," White said Monday on The MMA Hour. "The motivation for him to train and how angry he is and fired up he is for this fight. I think the fact that he's fighting Rashad is probably the best thing in the world for him."

White touched on many other subjects, below.

Wolf howls, chain-link neck piece and a larger-than-life image. Quinton "Rampage" Jackson should feel right at home when he co-hosts a June 7 installment of WWE Raw, the pro wrestling organization recently announced.

Jackson is appearing with Bradley Cooper and Sharito Copley on the show to promote their upcoming A-Team film, based on the popular 80s adventure series.

The WWE implemented weekly guest hosts last June, tapping former wrestling stars and celebrities to make appearances for a ratings boost. Hosts typically deliver an opening speech, participate in skits and at times, enter in tag matches.

UFC 114 Sold Out

December 31st, 1969

Filed under:

In the fight game, few things sell as well as genuine personal animosity.

That's why it should come as little surprise that UFC 114 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on Saturday night is officially sold out, according to a press release put out by the UFC.

Memorial Day weekend in Las Vegas always brings plenty of tourists, and the UFC Expo at the Mandalay Bay on Friday and Saturday certainly doesn't hurt either. But to really understand why UFC 114 is the hot ticket in town this Saturday night, one need look only as far as the main event.

UFC 114: By the Odds

December 31st, 1969

Filed under:

Want to know how tough the Quinton "Rampage" Jackson-Rashad Evans main event at UFC 114 is to call? Just ask the oddsmakers, who all have both guys hovering around the -115 range. For you non-gamblers, that means you'd have to bet $115 on the winner just to get a $100 payoff.

In other words, the bookies don't know which way it's going to go, but they think enough people will be willing to take the hit just because they want to bet on their favorite in this heated rivalry. Judging by the enthusiasm among the fans in Vegas this weekend, the oddsmakers are probably right about that much.

After the jump, a breakdown of UFC 114's most interesting betting lines.

Disappointed with Jackson-Evans Bout? Blame Expectations, Not Fighters

December 31st, 1969

Say you go to a movie on opening night. Just humor me. I swear there's an MMA-related point in here somewhere.

Say it's supposed to be a big blockbuster, something you've been looking forward to since you first saw the trailer in all its explosion heavy, one-liner spewing, ADD glory. Say the movie itself turns out to be firmly mediocre. Say you feel like you've been letdown yet again.

Say you spend the rest of the evening wondering how Hollywood keeps convincing you to drop your money on this stuff.

MMA Fighters Need to Lose the Homophobic Slurs

December 31st, 1969
Here's a news flash for MMA fighters everywhere: somewhere in your ranks, even at the highest level of the sport, there is at least one gay fighter. Maybe you've trained with him in the past. Maybe you've even faced him in the cage before. Odds are you never knew it, and it never mattered.

I make this point not for shock value, but to remind some fighters to think before they speak - or Twitter - because they don't necessarily know who they're talking to or who they're talking about.

Take Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, for instance, who made headlines in a Los Angeles Times profile piece wherein he worried that acting was too "gay" a pursuit for a tough guy like himself.

Longtime UFC Fighter Keith Jardine Cut Following Recent Loss

After five years, 13 fights and four straight losses, Keith Jardine's tenure with the UFC is over.

UFC President Dana White confirmed to MMA Fighting that the company has cut ties with the Ultimate Fighter season two alumni after his recent majority decision loss to Matt Hamill at last Saturday's TUF 11 finale.

"It sucks," White said. "I have nothing but respect for him and I hope to see him back soon."
